Snackin’ with Santa: A Holiday Tradition

Lustre is so excited to once again perform with the Harbor City Music Company Show Chorus on the annual Christmas show, “Snackin’ With Santa: A Holiday Tradition.” This event is such a delight every year. Geared toward kids, the chorus and guests quartets entertain with all of your favorite holiday tunes. With tasty treats and a festive atmosphere, kids and kids-at-heart can enjoy this family-friendly event culminating with a visit from Old St. Nick himself!
This year, the chorus is showcasing a Children’s Chorus as well, including kids aged 4-16. The HCMC members will be proud and honored to sing with some of our very own children, grand-children, neighbors and friends.
Lustre has performed on the HCMC holiday show every year since we have been together. It was at this event four years ago that we debuted what has turned into our signature and most-requested song: I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas. And of course will be singing it again this year – how could we not?
So come on out to the HCMC Holiday show – it will kick off your holiday season with just the right amount of holly jolly fun.

Looking ahead to the Holidays

Jingle, jingle, jingle.
Now that Halloween is behind us, it’s time to start thinking about and rehearsing holiday songs for December. I know, I know. “It’s too early!” “What about Thanksgiving?” So many of us get sort of irritated when the Christmas merchandise starts showing up as the Halloween costumes are cleared off the racks. I have a friend in Tulsa who reports that the Christmas music has started to play 24/7 on one of the radio stations there. I’m sure we’ve all seen the advertising on TV, and the first catalog landed in our mailbox a couple of weeks ago showing bright happy faces decked out in the season’s latest fashions, decorating the Christmas tree. “Not yet!” we want to scream.
But, in very specific circumstances, I think it’s ok to prepare for Christmas in early November. For one, if you are a crafter, then you have a lot of work to do for holiday gifts and decorations, so it makes sense to start early. (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.) And for another, if you’re a musician, you must begin to rehearse and polish your music before December comes, so that you’re ready to perform when the season is in full gear.
And so following this logic, Lustre is back into the holiday swing of things even in early November. We are pulling out the Christmas songs, adding a little bit of freshness to them, and maybe picking up a new song for this year while we’re at it. We’ll be ready for Christmas caroling and Singing Christmas Cards just in the St. Nick of time.
